Chief Executive & Chief Investment Officer

Darren Zaman

Darren joined Westminster Asset Management as CEO & CIO following a management buy-in.  He has 30 years’ experience of investment and money markets.  He was previously CEO of Brooks Macdonald International following the acquisition of DPZ Capital, a private client asset management boutique he founded in 2007.  Previously he was Managing Director of HSBC Asset Management (International) Limited. He has extensive experience in managing and advising on the investments of wealthy individuals and families, trusts, charities, pensions and institutions.

Darren has a BSc (Hons) from UMIST and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Senior Investment Director

Simon Beal

Simon began his career in the investment industry in 1987 holding roles with Newton Investment Management, Le Masurier James and Chin and HSBC Asset Management.  In 2007 he joined DPZ Capital and subsequently transferred to Brooks Macdonald in 2014 following its acquisition. Simon joined Westminster in September 2021 and was appointed to the board in October 2021.

Simon has extensive experience managing the investment affairs of wealthy individuals, families, charities and trusts with a special focus on the management of fixed interest and credit portfolios, most recently a £500 million fixed interest fund.

Simon is a Chartered Fellow of the Securities and Investment Institute and holds the CISI Diploma and the Investment Management Certificate.

Senior Investment Director

Ben Shenton

Ben is a Senior Investment Director with Westminster Asset Management.  He has over 40 years of private client investment management experience both in Jersey and London including senior roles with UBS and Morgan Stanley Quilter.  Prior to joining Westminster he ran a boutique private client investment management business based in Jersey.   

Ben has extensive experience in managing private client portfolios and applying independent analysis of economic and market conditions to asset allocation.  During a six-year political career, Ben was elected as Senator, holding positions such as Minister for Health and Social Services, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, and President of the Chairman’s Committee. He currently Chairs, in an honorary capacity, a number of local charities, and writes a weekly column for the Jersey Evening Post newspaper.

Ben is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments as well as former President of the Jersey Branch.

Investment Strategist

Peter Lucas

Peter is an acknowledged leader in asset allocation and fixed income markets.  His career spans over 30 years of hands-on money management, and includes roles with Ashburton, RBC and Rathbones.  As well as his role at Westminster Asset Management, he was lead investment manager in a single-family office and previously a non-executive director with a local financial planning and wealth advisory business.

Deputy Chief Investment Officer

Jonathan Schiessl

Jonathan Schiessl is the Deputy CIO and lead manager of the Asian Equity strategy, accompanied by an experienced team at Westminster Asset Management. He conceptualised, launched and was the lead manager of various equity strategies across Asia since the late 1990’s at other companies. A previous holder of a AAA Citywire fund manager rating, Jonathan has received various performance awards. He was the Chief Investment Officer at Ashburton International, and more recently managed an Indian equity fund as well as taking responsibility for the introduction ESG factors into the investment process at IIFL Asset Management.

Paul Eva

Paul was appointed a Non-Executive Director of Westminster Asset Management in February 2024. He has over 30 years experience within both the Retail and Private Banking industry having worked for RBS in the UK since 1989. Moving to the Channel Islands in 2003 initially to take up a role with RBS International, he joined Coutts in 2008 as Managing Partner for the Crown Dependencies and Monaco. Leading the Coutts wealth management business for many years, he was responsible for directing teams of Private Bankers to provide investment advice to high net worth clients, families and trusts.

Paul is a Chartered Wealth Manager and also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.

Chief Operating Officer

Miguel de Miguel

Miguel joined Westminster Asset Management as Chief Operating Officer in July 2021.  He has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services, having previously worked in the global investment banking, hedge fund and private client wealth management sectors. Prior to joining Westminster Asset Management, he was Director of Risk, Governance and Legal at Brooks Macdonald International. 

Miguel has held a number of senior executive positions within risk, legal and compliance, including Director and Head of Compliance at LGT Vestra Jersey, Head of Legal and Compliance at DPZ Capital Limited, COO of a local hedge fund business and Company Secretary at Morgan Stanley, Europe. He has extensive experience in business risk management, regulatory compliance and corporate acquisitions (having most recently led the legal, risk and regulatory workstream’s of Brooks Macdonald International’s acquisition of the £1bn Lloyds Bank International Wealth Management and Funds businesses).

Director

Richard Luke

Richard is a non-executive director of Westminster Asset Management Limited. Outside of this Richard’s primary role is as a Director of WGT Limited, which manages the Jersey based Westminster Group, whose assets include Public Securities, Private Equity, Real Estate, Structured Debt and Aviation interests. He has been working for the Group since 2014 and prior to joining WGT Limited, Richard worked for Capita PLC managing teams within their corporate, custody and registrar departments. Richard is a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Head of Operations

Paul Soares

Paul has significant experience in developing and delivering private client asset management propositions. Previous roles have included Business Development Director at LGT Vestra Jersey and Head of Investor Solutions at Brooks Macdonald following the acquisition of DPZ Capital, where he was integral in developing the international adviser proposition and the development of the investment management and client relationship management systems.  Paul brings a wealth of global experience in implementing customer centric solutions.

Investment Director

Matthew Clarke

Matthew, an accomplished Investment Director, brings over 10 years of industry experience to his role at Westminster, which he joined in June 2024. His career began at Kleinwort Benson and later led him to Canaccord Genuity. There, he was a key member of the Discretionary Portfolio Management team, providing multi-asset solutions to institutions, intermediaries, and high net worth private clients. While at Canaccord Genuity, he served on the International Stock Selection Committee. This committee was tasked with the approval and upkeep of the list of direct equities in which the International Group could invest on behalf of their clients.

Matthew holds a Level 7 qualification, including the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD), the Private Client Investment Advice & Management Certificate (PCIAM), and the Diploma in Wealth Management. Recognised as a Chartered Wealth Manager in 2019, he is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

Wealth Director

Mike Mulhern

Mike joined Westminster Asset Management in February 2023 and has 20+ years’ experience in Wealth Management. Mike has successfully managed and developed relationships for private clients based in Europe and Asia, both at Citibank and Standard Chartered.

More recently, Mike has managed local clients, having previously been employed in an IFA firm as a Senior Financial Adviser. He takes pride in managing investment portfolios, with a strong ethos on continued client education throughout the relationship.

Mike is qualified to provide both Investment Advice and Pension Planning Advice. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities.

Mike Langstone

Mike joined Westminster Asset management as in investment director in January 2022. He has 40 years’ experience in investment markets. He was previously an investment director at Brooks Macdonald International following the acquisition of DPZ Capital, a private client asset management boutique founded in 2007 where he joined in 2008. He has many years’ experience managing and advising on the investments of wealthy individuals, families, trusts and pensions.

Nick Skiming

Nick has extensive experience of managing direct equities, exchange traded funds and multi asset portfolios.  He has managed investments for over 30 years, most recently as Acting Head of Ashburton Investments’ offshore portfolio management team, offering portfolio management services to intermediaries, UHNW clients and to FirstRand Wealth subsidiaries.  He was formerly head of US equities, and lead manager of the Ashburton Americas fund, which received recognition from S & P and PlexCrown rating agencies. Prior to this he provided discretionary and advisory investment services with Collins Stewart Asset Management (C.I.) and Quilter and Co. 

Nick is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and also holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Mark Juste

Mark has over 35 years’ experience working in the finance industry including treasury, private banking and wealth management as both a relationship manager and investment advisor with Deutsche Bank, DPZ Capital and Standard Chartered, developing relationships and providing investment advice to private clients, intermediaries and family offices.  He spent the 3 years prior to Westminster working for Standard Chartered Private Bank in Singapore where he successfully designed and implemented their Global Sales Analytics platform.

Des Jeffrey

Des joined Westminster Asset Management in April 2024 and has over 30 years of experience in providing financial planning and advice to Jersey residents.  In particular, he has advised on retirement funding and planning, as well as succession arrangements, for numerous Jersey individuals and families.

Prior to joining Westminster Asset Management, Des was advising private clients at a Jersey-based wealth consultancy having owned and managed his own financial advisory business between 1996 and 2010 that was acquired by a Channel Island asset manager that ultimately became Brooks Macdonald International.

Des also has a great deal of experience advising businesses on a range of matters from employee benefits and pensions to shareholder and keyman insurance protection.
